The King of Hearts

By Alana Watson

CNN TV host Larry King has been doing extraordinary  things with his time. After undergoing a quintuple bypass, Larry King had an epiphany and through his experience conceived an  idea that will save the lives of many.

Washington’s Finest would like to celebrate the efforts of the Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF).  The Larry King Cardiac foundation was founded in 1988, and the mission of the organization is to ‘Save a heart a day.’ Larry King has teamed with many to make sure that those who do not have insurance or could not otherwise afford cardiac treatment will be able to receive the care they need without the worry of incurring exorbitant hospital costs.  Larry King has teamed with distin-guished hospitals such as Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, The George Washington university hospital in Washington, DC, New York Presby-terian, The university hospital of Columbia, and Cornell to help those most in need.

Aside from millions of Americans who suffer from heart disease, there remain those who are born with heart defects and or abnor-malities or those who that may require certain cardiac  procedures.  Larry King’s foundation is working hard to make sure that they will have a shot at living normal healthy lives.♥ The Larry King Cardiac Foundation encourages any person in need to seek their assistance, but the foundation makes it clear that funds are given on a case by case basis.  Should a person’s case be accepted, he or she will receive a personal call of inspiration from Larry King, Sr. himself.   The LKCF is supported by many celebrity personalities and once a year, the foundation hosts a gala to help raise money.  In 2008, the Grammy award winner Seal came out to support Larry King’s worthy cause as well as many others.  The LKCF went on to raise millions at their 2008 gala.  ♥ The Larry King Cardiac Foundation reached out to a ‘Queen of hearts’ by the name of Catherine Bonner who is the designer of a jewelry line called unbrokenheart. Bonner’s pieces are authentically hand craft-ed and were inspired by Bonner’s one time emotional broken heart.  The LKCF reached out to Bonner for her one of a kind unbroken-heart pieces for their silent auction.  The rest is history.  To understand this line of jewelry one must understand that a broken heart comes in many forms.  Bonner has designed 2 types of unbrokenheart’s, one which is un-mended and the other mended.  Those that purchase the uniquely beautiful pieces can receive the heart un-mended and later mend the heart with a piece of gold which has been crafted to wrap around the “unmended” heart pendant.  The mending of each heart can be done by one’s own hands.  There are a collection of pieces from sterling silver necklaces, pendants, and key chains.  There is a uniquely special heart just for the larry King Cardiac Foundation that consists of .925 sterling silver broken heart that has red cubic zirconias that can be mended by hand with a 14kt. strand of gold.  imagine the great work that the LKCF does to mend the anatomical heart, while Catherine Bonner’s pieces allow either family members or the patient themselves ‘mend’ their own emotional heart. This is what makes the journey worthwhile.  if you are inspired by the LKCF or the great work Catherine Bonner continues to do with each of her unique creations, please visit their web-sites:
