By Tiffany Carter

Say “goodbye” to a “low carb” diet! Warm, moist cupcakes are all it takes to win someone’s heart. This is just what Sprinkles Cupcakes has been doing—warming millions of hearts. These delectable sweets range from flavors as simple as Vanilla to the more distinctive, Chai latte. Since opening a bakery in the center of “thin city” (Beverly hills), in April 2005, Sprinkles has since been attracting thousands of customers daily.    With the intent of celebrating the American Cupcake, Sprinkles quickly established a highly regarded reputation as America’s original Cupcake.   opening during the peak of low Carb mania, some felt would they have little to no success. despite the disbelievers, Candace Nelson, executive Chef and owner, pushed forward with the idea. Within the first 9 months, Sprinkles had been introduced to the world of celebrities. Through word of mouth, Sprinkles’ name quickly spread. Katie holmes spoke of the bakery on a television show and Barbara Streisand bought a box for oprah. They were such a delight; the oprah Winfrey Show made a call requesting 300 cupcakes for their studio audience, the next morning. “Needless to say, we said “YeS! ”And hopped on a red eye to Chicago”, said Candace.  little was known about Sprinkles’ journey; before long Sprinkles had been featured on television shows, such as Good morning America, The Tyra Banks Show, and martha Stewart, and even featured on several News Channels (WfAA 8 News and WB 33 News). from a small inspiration, Sprinkles quickly became a national phenomenon.  Coming from a family of bakers, Candace’s love blossomed.  her inspiration came from her grandmother, who owned several successful restaurants in San francisco. her grandmother’s adoration for cooking and baking trickled down to her daughter (Candace’s mother). from then on, Candace’s mother became known for her mouth-watering desserts. Grow-ing up in the kitchen, Candice’s passion for baking grew. After years of studying finance, she decided to attend pastry school, in pursuit of her passion.  Sprinkles was no overnight success; it has grown into a triumphant business. Sprinkles bakeries are located in five different locations: Beverly hills, Newport Beach, dallas, Scottsdale, and Palo Alto (Washington, dC is said to be next on the list).  Known for their high-profile devotees, Sprinkles has far exceeded expectations. “We had no idea that cupcakes would create such a stir,” says Candace.  Aside from baking, Sprinkles gives back to the people who have made it all possible.  Through regular donations to charities and events supporting causes, Sprinkles credits its amazing customers for making it all possible. of the worthy causes, Sprinkles has supported charities such as enter-tainment industry foundation’s Women’s Cancer research fund, donorschoose.org, TreePeople, Surfrider, children’s hospitals (in every market) and Texas Trees foundations.  Sprinkles also donates their leftover cupcakes to the local food banks. flourishing from, merely, an idea to selling over a thousand cupcakes a day (between all five locations), Sprinkles offers crème de’ la crème services. The bakery caters to wedding parties and even to our four -legged friends. Yep! That’s right. Sprinkles sells doggie cupcakes, which are baked in Santa Barbara. in addition to the bakery, cupcake mixes can be purchased on their site (www.sprinklescupcakes.com). “We cater to all of our customers,” Candace clarifies.  When it comes to a Sprinkles’ cupcakes, the wait is well worth it.    There’s nothing wrong with indulging in delectable tastes, every now and then; especially, if you are choosing Sprinkles Cupcakes!
